Almost exactly six months ago, a car crashed into Billy Corgan's tea shop, Madame Zuzu’s, injuring his mother-in-law. On Tuesday (April 29), another car hit the Highland Park, Illinois shop. Thankfully, this time no one was injured.
The Smashing Pumpkins frontman's wife Chloe Mendel Corgan, told local news station WGN9 that this was “an honest accident" that caused “some exterior damage” but no injuries. By the time a helicopter was at the scene, the car was already moved and minimal damage to the brick facade was noticeable. It's unclear what caused the accident.
“Earlier today, there was an accident outside of Madame Zuzu’s involving a vehicle that struck the front of the café," reads a statement on Madame Zuzu's Instagram account. "Thankfully, no one was injured. Thank you to everyone who checked in and offered support.”
Corgan also shared a photo of the damage on his X account, writing: “Can you believe someone drove into the front of Madame Zuzu’s AGAIN?”
Corgan originally opened the shop in the Ravinia neighborhood of Chicago in 2012 and closed its doors in 2018. In 2020, he and his wife reopened Madame Zuzu's in its current location.
The accident happened a little more than a month after the Corgans welcomed their third child, a baby girl named Juno.
