Black Sabbath are gearing up to play their final concert ever this summer, but could a hologram show be in the cards for the metal legends? According to Sharon Osbourne, who manages her husband Ozzy Osbourne, there's definitely a chance.
"Sure I would, yeah," Sharon told Metal Hammer (via NME) when asked if she would be open to a Black Sabbath hologram show similar to ABBA's Voyage. “Technology keeps moving on and on. You can do incredible things now, so what you could do in five years will be even better. You never know what the opportunities are.”
If Black Sabbath do get the hologram treatment they won't be the first rockers to go virtual. In 2023, Kiss announced that their avatar shows would launch in 2027 after Pophouse Entertainment, who produced ABBA Voyage, acquired the band's music catalog and rights to branding in a $300 million deal.
Black Sabbath's final concert is set to take place at Villa Park in their hometown of Birmingham, and the band will consist of its classic lineup, with Ozzy joining guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward.
Sharon said it was "amazing" that Ward, whom she's had personal issues with, would be a part of the event. “I always say they’ve got that invisible connection between the four of them, and he’s gonna be there, which is amazing,” she noted. “I’m not going to bulls**t you and say we’re the best of friends. We’re not. We are such different people. But I respect Bill so much, and I’m so happy that he has agreed to come, for the band and for the fans.”
The concert is being billed as Back To The Beginning and is set to take place July 5. The all-day event will also feature sets from Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Alice in Chains, TOOL, and many other rock and metal icons.
