Melo Hairapetian lost his thumb in a work accident with a circular saw. As a carpenter, not having a thumb made Melo's work, and daily life, extremely difficult. Loyola Medicine hand surgeons Sonya Agnew and Sameer Puri worked as a team, to remove his big toe and use it to replace his missing thumb. This is awesome! Plus...getting a "thumbs up" from him has to be pretty cool. It's like shouting with your thumb...you know, 'cause it's the size of a big toe.
