Avicii's Family Implies The DJ Died From Suicide: Read Their New Statement

New details surrounding Avicii's death (born Tim Bergling) have been released and his family has implied that the Swedish hitmaker died of an apparent suicide, according to Variety.

In a new statement obtained by the outlet, which was translated from Swedish, the Bergling family referred to the DJ as "a seeker, a fragile artistic soul searching for answers to existential questions" and "an over-achieving perfectionist who travelled and worked hard at a pace that led to extreme stress."

"When he stopped touring, he wanted to find a balance in life to be happy and be able to do what he loved most – music. He really struggled with thoughts about Meaning, Life, Happiness. He could not go on any longer," the statement continued.

News of Avicii's death surfaced last Friday (April 20), as per a statement from his publicist. He was 28 years old. "It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii," his publicist Diana Baron said in a statement. "He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th. The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given."

Avicii was born in Sweden and became one of the biggest DJs in the world, courtesy of his hits, "Levels," "Hey Brothers" and, of course, "Wake Me Up" featuring Aloe Blacc. Back in 2016, he retired from touring due to health reasons, leaving behind a legacy as one of the highest paid DJs in the entire world with earnings of $28 million dollars in 2014. After he retired from the road, the DJ still stayed active in the studio and dropped his final EP AVĪCI (01) in 2017. He was also nominated for two Grammys for Best Dance Recording in 2011 and 2012 for "Levels" and "Sunshine." Statement From Avicii's Family

Our beloved Tim was a seeker, a fragile artistic soul searching for answers to existential questions.

An over-achieving perfectionist who traveled and worked hard at a pace that led to extreme stress.

When he stopped touring, he wanted to find a balance in life to be happy and be able to do what he loved most – music.

He really struggled with thoughts about Meaning, Life, Happiness.

He could not go on any longer.

He wanted to find peace.

Tim was not made for the business machine he found himself in; he was a sensitive guy who loved his fans but shunned the spotlight.

Tim, you will forever be loved and sadly missed.

The person you were and your music will keep your memory alive.
